Experience
I received a Type 09 Certificate from the University of Illinois at Chicago in May 2006, and I am certified in grades 6-12. I also received a Master of Arts in Communications, Media and Theatre at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago, Illinois in May of 2011. During my nine years as a high school English teacher, I have worked extensively with a non-traditional population of students. Living in an impoverished community, my students require both academic and emotional support that they find difficulty attaining in their personal lives. I have tasked myself as both an instructor and a mentor; on a daily basis, I assist my students in the development of their academic skills while I help them to build towards a future career and post-high school life. Furthermore, I have advised the National Honor Society since May of 2007. My work with these elite students has taught me the value of an educator’s presence outside of the classroom setting. Students look to me as a role model and mentor as well as a source of information and guidance.
